Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani – Movie Review 02.12.09

Cast:
Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Upen Patel, Darshan Jariwala, Manju Asrani
Salman Khan.
“Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani” turned out almost like I thought it would, although I had expected better. Majorly slapstick-y with a very, very loose story-line, is how I’d describe it. The regular rules on describing character development and depth don’t apply here because, and I’ll say it flat out, there is none. Character development that is.

This film, while being physically situated in a hill-station like small town, appears to play out in fantasy land. Hence, to sit through this film, you are required to suspend your disbelief and knowledge of physics, gravity and all that tiresome logic.

The film swings like a pendulum; at one moment, it takes off and at another, it just drops. The track between the gangster (Zakir Husain) is uncalled for and lengthens the movie unnecessarily. As for the track with Rahul (Upen Patel), it’s very, very long.

Just one question to Ranbir Kapoor and the people who have marketed this film: was it necessary to time the break-up story (if at all it is true) with girlfriend Deepika Padukone a few days before the release? I mean, C’mon, Ranbir can get the audience into the theatres on the strength of his performance. He does not need cheap publicity gimmicks to create a buzz about the film. On second thoughts, maybe Ranbir had no choice but to play to the market and make sure the film capitalized on the ‘initials’.

Love Story Film “Love Aaj Kal” Music Review 07.09.09

Film Love Aaj Kal director is Imtiaz Ali, music director Pritam Chakraborty and lyricist, Irshad Kamil, who regaled us with a fresh as the morning dew music of the heart-warming superhit, JAB WE MET, are back once again. And this time its under the banner of Illumanti Films, whose producer is ”Chote Nawab”,  Saif Ali Khan. The name of stars are Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Giselle Monteiro, Rishi Kapoor, Rahul Khanna, Neetu Singh, Vir Das, and Raj Zutshi.

The title can be read as a pun on time and memory and reflects the narrative’s division into two parallel love stories from aaj (today) and kal (yesterday): Harleen Kaur and Veer Singh in India 40 years ago, and Meera Pandit and Jai Vardhan Singh in London and India, present day. In contrasting the opinion of two versions of the same person (Saif Ali Khan as Jai in 2009 and Veer in 1965), the story gives some hints about what love aaj kal (these days) is and could be.

Neeraj Shridhar, Master Saleem, Suzi Q, Sunidhi Chauhan, Mohit Chauhan, K k and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan are singers of this movie. “Love Aaj Kal” have a funtastic music specially for younger. Lovely combination of simple guitar strums as well as crunch guitar sounds herald one of the most rhythmic track of the album ” Aahuh Aahun”.

Background music by Salim-Sulaiman is unobtrusive and at the same time helps carry the narrative from scene to scene. Pritam’s score (with lyrics by Irshad Kamil) fares better within the film, enhancing and commenting on the storyline, than as stand-alone songs.

If someone was listening to my cries over the first track, instantly second track made me fly high. A haunting whistling sound coming from a distant place with winds blowing, and Voila !! Mohit Chauhan !! Singing ‘Yeh Dooriyaan’ a regular, soaked in sweetness, lovely song by Mohit. Words by Irshad Kamil, does fantastic job. And the ‘theme’ the song has, must be used in various parts of the movie. Also it is used in Main Yahaan Hoon track. Fresh breeze of romance is felt all around. Traces of Tum Se Hi are felf here too.

Next track ‘Chor Bazari’ is a fun foot tapping track. Girl and boy having fun. Sung by Neeraj Shridhar [again] with Sunidhi Chauhan. Though composition is quite insteresting but it fails to hold up the attention. Just a few seconds into the ‘mukhda’ and the all too familiar and popular ‘been’ notes from the evergreen classic ”Man Dole” engulfs the listeners and any novice can say that Pritam has another chart cracker of a number up his sleeve in the form of ”Twist”, and next songs are ‘Main Kya Hoon’, ‘Ajj Din Chadheya’, ‘Thoda Thoda Pyar’.

”Chor Bazari-Remix” is one of those rare instances where the remix is better than the original. So let us do the ritual, through our final verdict, which is obvious! On the whole, the audio album of LOVE AAJ KAL.

“Wanted” An Action Movie Music Review 04.09.09

Wanted Released on Septembr 18, 2009. Wanted is an action movie and in Star Cast include Salman Khan(Radhe), Ayesha Takia Azmi(Jhanvi), Mahesh Manjrekar(Inspector Talpade), Asseem Merchant, Sajid, Vinod Khanna, Mahek Chhal, Prakash Raj(Gani Bhai), Anil Kapoor(Special appearance), Inder Kumar, Govind Namdeo and Manoj Pahwa. Director name Prabhu Deva and Producer is Boney Kapoor.
Well, what have we here? One of Salman Khan’s most awaited flicks Wanted has been in the news like a frenzy since the theatrical teaser hit the screens and the websites.
WANTED makes a ”filmi” nosedive with Spanish flavored climax number ””Le Le Maaza Le” where innovative melodic feel makes it an all together experimental. However reading the title of the song “Love Me Love Me” you would assume that it would be some lounge track with English lyrics added to it. Despite overdo of ”heard-before” syndrome, the album delivers entertainment and prospers with chartbusting hit tracks, thanks to catchy beats and sounds that are likely to be making it bankable affair.
Other Songs are “Ishq Vishk, Dil Leke, Le Le Mazaa Le, Jalwa and Tose Pyaar Karte Hain. “Tose Pyaar Karte Hain (Remix)” – The final remix fails to deliver as it just sounds like an enhanced, extended version of the original with extra beats. Akbar Sami just can’t get it right in this one. Sadly, another disappointment.
WANTED comes out as a Salman friendly massy album, with music that holds no big upsets but is high on enthralling quotient to woo young listeners.

Yuvvraaj MP3 Songs Download And Music Review 10.12.08

Subhash Ghai is one guy who knows how important music is for a Bollywood movie. He makes a good effort to ensure quality to the last bit. His soundtracks sell better than his films sometimes. Remember Taal? A.R Rahman’s music topped the charts for a really long time and the film blew up at the box office. Subhash Ghai is back with another flick titled Yuvvraaj. The film stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Zayed Khan in lead roles. The music has been composed by A.R Rahman and the lyrics have been penned down by Gulzar. A typical Subhash Ghai menu. Yuvvraaj is slated for a November release. The music is finally out so let’s check it out!

The opening track Main Hoon Yuvraj basically works as a prologue to the following track and is designed as a dialogue monologue in Salman Khan’s trademark anglicized accent.

After group performances in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Golmaal Returns , Benny Dayal gets his first lead playback song with Tu Meri Dost Hai . The song opens with an eloquent alaap which forms the base tune of the track. Expect it to catch up as a ringtone soon and win major mobile downloads.

Tu Muskura relies strongly on Alka Yagnik’s soulful singing and has minimal musical arrangements with an unadorned yet effective tune. Shano Shano is an instantly infectious disco dance number where you identify Sonu Nigam’s vocals amongst the horde of six other wide-range singers.

Gulzar is at his usual best with his choice of unusual words and their phonetic tweaking in Mastam Mastam. Sonu Nigam does an immaculate attempt at mouthing the tongue-twisters and Alka Yagnik, too, is decent enough.

Dil Ka Rishta
is seemingly conceived as a climax opera act comprising the three leads Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan and Zayed Khan who play brothers in the film. Heavy on orchestration, the song has Sonu Nigam taking the lead with able support by Roopkumar Rathod. A R Rahman chips in for the more demanding classical rendition.

Manmohini Morey has chaste classical singing on a contemporary backdrop by Vijay Prakash, in the likes of maestros akin to Ustad Sultaan Khan. This small piece is a gem for connoisseurs of classical music. Zindagi is a sad number about looking life in retrospect but doesn’t get outright depressing. Srinivas goes mellow on singing this comparatively conventional number from the album.

Kaash Mere Hote Songs Download And Music Review 10.12.08

“Mera Mann Kyun Tumhe Chaahee…” (MANN -1999) brought the promising musical duo of Sanjeev Darshan in filmdom. The magic was out there but consistency was missing in their following melodic works. After a hiatus of almost half a decade, the duo fights back their way out in the low profile entertainer, KAASHH MERE HOTE, with the musical feel that best reflects out the glowing charms and prowess of their mentor’s (Nadeem Shravan) style of music. Will KAASHH MERE HOTE be turning the tables and creating forum for this struggling musical duo? Will the resurrection of 90’s magical musical charm be working bliss for them? Let’s take a deep introspection into it!

“Teri Naganee”, an ethnically Punjabi song with loud “bhangra” beat bangs and deliriously rocking arrangements. The “masti” gets energized with hi-voltage DJ mixing as the feverish “club” remixing grooves rules the floor with thumping impacts.

Sanjeev-Darshan pick up new vocalist Shashank Singh Baba to be youthful “chosen” voice for their comeback album and expectedly the singer gets a major chunk of the lot with solo track “Mehbooba”. Shashank Singh Baba makes another romantic solo maneuver in “Teri Yaad” that comes with a slightly better sounding composition. Sanjeev-Darshan makes topsy-turvy moves with varying shades of percussions and electronic beat sounds that grow infectiously in its narrative flows.

It’s time for some soothing melody and the mood gets somber with impressive sounding title track “Kaashh Mere Hote”. Shweta Pandit’s penetrative voice in lower subtle tones leaves out an impression that gets accentuated with pleasing classical westernized orchestrations. Sanjeev-Darshan’s music solemnizes the supple romantic feel of “Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai” (HAMARA DIL AAPKE PAAS HAI) with soothing flute notes in its preludes.

Sanjeev-Darshan make efforts in brining out 90’s Bollywood charms by picking up contemporary Nadeem-Shravan’s peculiar style of composing in “Rim Jhim Sawan”. It brings back Shashank Singh Baba with sweet sounding Shweta Pandit in softer romantic tones. Sameer’s worthwhile wordings would have been bliss in early 90’s but now phraseology sounds outdated with music that is more akin to lure 90’s listeners.
